Yikes this is a big guy (gun) - not one I like - it always looks top heavy to me - it's too over sized for most everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe tiara entered the Nassau (Luxembourg) family between 1813 and 1829. In both those years the family had inventories of their jewellery and the records are available the the Hessian state archives. (Grand) Duke Adolph and Grand Duchess Elizabeth Mikhailovna of Russia married in 1844. Grand Duchess Hilda of Baden, Adolph's daughter by his second marriage, was born in 1864 so neither of them was the original owner. It was either made or altered by Frankfurt jeweller Speltz in 1829. That same year Adolph's father, Duke Wilhelm of Nassau, married his second wife Princess Pauline of Württemberg so she was likely one of the first owners.
